Reception to follow in Fellowship Hall Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church 600 Ash St Johnstown, PA 15902 Located in Hornerstown on the corner of Ash and Golde Streets John H. Deardorff, Jr. November 12, 1941 - November 4, 2019 John H. Deardorff, Jr., 77, went to be with the Lord on November 4, 2019, surrounded by loved ones and under the care of Interim Hospice. John was born and raised in Johnstown, PA. He is the son of John Howard Deardorff, Sr. and Mary Ann (Dunbar) Deardorff. Preceded in death by his parents; Peggy Deardorff, sister and wife Carole A. Deardorff. He is survived by John H. Deardorff, III, son, of California and Melissa Ann Deardorff, daughter, of Virginia. He also has a step-son Michael Cammarata of Florida and a quasi-adopted son Michael Devlin of Pennsylvania. John attended Johnstown High School and went on to Lycoming College. Previous marriage to Carol Deardorff-McCaffrey, mother of his children. Recently, he was in a committed relationship with Joyce Plaza, who was significant in his care. They shared many memories, laughs and adventures in their later years. He also gained 5 wonderful grandchildren from their relationship. John was a proud lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He served on the church council as President for many years. He served under the leadership of mentor and friend, Pastor Toby Holland. John belonged to Johnstown Lodge 175 BPO Elks, where he was a Past Exalted Ruler. He was recently appointed membership to The Johnstown Retired Firefighters and Local Emergency Planning Committees. He served them with great pride. John was a local business owner in the community, owing Deardorff’s Service Station for more than 25 years. He then went on to serve as Emergency Manager for the City of Johnstown. Finally, retiring as Director of Operations for LifeLink Security. John loved his children and loved the Lord. He loved sports, playing golf, nature, animals and loved to laugh. He appreciated the simple things in life and found good in everything. The family would like to thank UPMC Home Health and especially Interim Hospice for their care during his final days. The family would like to thank the endless amount of support and assistance from friends during his illness, especially Joyce. A Celebration of Life will be held November 24th at 4p.m. at the Trinity Lutheran Church, 600 Ash St, Johnstown, 15902. Elks Recognition Ceremony, food and gathering will be held in the fellowship hall afterwards. John Henderson Company Funeral Home is serving the family. 22nd Sunday after Pentecost
